Wave Pulse Propagation on a Slinky Spring

Two students covered the floor under a stairwell with a large sheet of plastic-laminated blue paper. They put a thin coat of oil on it to reduce friction. A high-speed camera between the second and third floors was aimed straight down at the paper. They made several videos of transverse and longitudinal pulses moving along a Slinky that was lying on the floor.
